What Is A Porcelain Veneer?

You can think of a porcelain veneer as similar to a contact lens, but for your teeth! Porcelain veneers are extremely thin sheets of porcelain (about 0.3mm, roughly the thickness of a business card) that are bonded to the front of your teeth. Porcelain is chosen because it closely mimics the appearance of natural enamel. Veneers are used to alter the shape, color, size, and symmetry of your teeth and smile.

Advanced Technology

Today's porcelain veneers are vastly improved from the past. You might remember older veneers that looked like Chiclets, often due to the use of opaque, monochromatic porcelain or porcelain crowns fused to metal. Modern technology has enhanced veneers significantly, making them:
  • Stronger
  • More translucent, closely resembling natural teeth
  • Ultra-thin
  • The ideal choice for achieving a beautiful, natural-looking smile!

Porcelain Veneer Process

Dennis Dental Care has transformed thousands of smiles and placed tens of thousands of veneers. We use science, experience, skill, and art to make sure every case is a perfect 10! We begin with the end in mind – a gorgeous smile!

Check out our step-by-step process below.

  • Step 1: Consultation & Interview
The first step in the porcelain veneer process is scheduling a consultation to discuss your goals and explore your options. We'll take digital images of your teeth and smile, review your objectives, and show you examples of stunning smiles to help you choose the one that best complements your facial structure. You’ll get to see hundreds of examples of our own cosmetic dentistry work.

Our team is committed to understanding exactly what you’re looking for. We offer personalized treatment plans, whether you need two veneers or a full-mouth restoration of 28 teeth. By the end of this appointment, our dentists will have created a customized plan that will deliver the smile of your dreams, often exceeding your expectations!

  • Step 2: Creating Your Blueprint
Once we finalize the plan for your smile, we take impressions (models) of your teeth. These impressions, along with detailed instructions, are sent to a Master Ceramist, handpicked to suit your needs. They use a chewing simulator machine to create a "wax-up" blueprint of your veneers. This ensures not only the aesthetic beauty of your smile but also the long-term functionality of your restorations.

  • Step 3: Preparation & Temporary Veneers
After the wax-up, we're ready to begin the procedure. Our cosmetic dentists will conservatively contour your teeth as necessary and prepare them for the veneers. We’ll take models based on the wax-up blueprint to guide the fabrication of your permanent veneers.

During this stage, you’ll wear temporary veneers for about three weeks. This "test drive" allows us to make any necessary modifications to ensure your final veneers meet both cosmetic and functional expectations. We can adjust their length, shape, and overall appearance based on your feedback.

  • Step 4: The Veneer Placement
This is the exciting day! After wearing your temporaries, we’ll remove them and try in the final porcelain veneers. We’ll ensure everything is perfect and that you love the results before permanently bonding them in place.

Finally, we’ll equilibrate your bite for a natural, balanced movement and, if needed, take impressions for a night guard to protect your new smile. With this, your beautiful new veneers are complete!
