What are Dental Crowns?

Improving Your Smile: Understanding the Advantages and Uses of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns, also referred to as caps, are personalized coverings created to safeguard and repair teeth that have been affected by injury or decay. They are utilized when a tooth is too weak to support a smaller filling, offering a long-lasting solution to preserve its form, durability, and function.

Made from strong materials such as porcelain, ceramic, or metal alloys, dental crowns are customized to match your natural teeth, guaranteeing a unified and visually appealing smile.

Types of Crowns

Porcelain

Our metal-free aesthetic crowns seamlessly integrate with your natural teeth.

Gold

These crowns are crafted from a durable gold alloy that can withstand strong biting and chewing forces, making them perfect for molars.

Porcelain Fused to Metal

Increased durability is achieved with a metal-based ceramic crown.

The Dental Crown Process

We customize the dental crown process at Dennis Dental Care to meet your individual needs. Here is a detailed overview of what you can anticipate:
1

Examination and Consultation

During your first appointment, Dr. Rob will carefully examine your tooth and smile. Based on the evaluation, he will decide whether a dental crown is the most appropriate treatment or if there are better alternatives. If a crown is suggested, Dr. Rob will provide a detailed explanation of the procedure and address any questions or concerns you may have.
2

Tooth Preparation

When you choose to move forward with getting your dental crown, the affected tooth will be prepared by removing a small portion of its outer structure to make room for the crown. Numbing medication will be provided to ensure your comfort during the procedure.
3

Impression

Following the preparation of your tooth, a precise digital scan or "virtual impression" will be taken. This 3D image will then be sent to our dental laboratory, where skilled technicians will utilize the digital data to create your personalized crown. This process guarantees a flawless fit and a natural look that meets the specifications set by Dr. Rob.
4

Temporary Crown Placement

During the creation of your permanent crown, a temporary crown will be placed on your prepared tooth to prevent sensitivity or damage until the permanent crown is completed.
5

Final Crown Placement

Once your custom crown is prepared, please come back to our office for its placement. Our dentist will check the fit, make any needed adjustments, and securely attach it to your tooth.
