Post-Cosmetic Dental Reconstruction Care
If you are feeling any discomfort or issues with your new bite following cosmetic dental reconstruction, please know that this is normal. It may take some time for your brain to adjust to the changes in alignment or thickness of your teeth. If you notice any high spots or ongoing problems with your bite, please contact our office at Atwater Phone Number (330) 628-0066 to schedule an adjustment appointment.
It is common to experience sensitivity to hot and cold as your teeth heal after the removal of tooth structure. This sensitivity should improve over time. Your gums may also be sore for a few days. To help reduce pain and swelling, rinse with warm salt water (one teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water) three times a day. Taking a mild pain reliever, such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen (Motrin), every 3-4 hours can also help manage any discomfort.
Adjusting to Your New Dental Work
Please note that it is normal to experience changes in speech or increased saliva in the days following your new dental work. These adjustments will soon fade, and you will feel like yourself again. Remember to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing daily to ensure the longevity of your new teeth. Regular plaque removal and cleaning appointments are essential for the ongoing success of your dental work.
To protect your new teeth, avoid hard foods that could potentially damage them, as well as your natural teeth. Steer clear of items like beer nuts, peanut brittle, ice, fingernails, pencils, and sticky candies. Smoking can also cause staining on your new teeth, so it's best to limit or avoid foods and drinks that can cause stains, such as coffee, red wine, tea, and berries.
If you participate in sports, please let us know so we can provide you with a custom mouthguard. If you grind your teeth at night, be sure to use the night guard we have given you. Adjusting to the appearance and feel of your new smile may take some time. If you have any concerns or questions, don't hesitate to contact us. We are here to help you and address any issues you may have.
Care Instructions for Dental Crowns and Bridges
Dental crowns and bridges typically require two to three appointments for completion. During the first visit, your teeth will be prepared and molds of your mouth will be taken. Temporary crowns or bridges will be placed to protect your teeth while the custom restoration is being made. Numbness in your tongue, lips, and the roof of your mouth may occur due to anesthesia, so it is advised to avoid eating and drinking hot beverages until the numbness wears off completely.
If a temporary crown becomes loose, please contact us at (330) 628-0066 and bring the temporary crown with you so we can re-cement it. Keeping the temporary crown in place is crucial to prevent other teeth from shifting and ensure a proper fit for your final restoration.
To care for the temporary crown, avoid sticky foods and hard substances, and chew on the opposite side of your mouth. Continue to brush your teeth as usual, but floss carefully to avoid dislodging the temporary crown. Any temperature or pressure sensitivity should diminish within a few weeks after the final restoration is placed. If you experience discomfort, mild pain medications prescribed by our office can help manage it.
If you notice an uneven bite, persistent pain, or have any questions or concerns, please contact our office at (330) 628-0066.
Post-Tooth Extraction Care Instructions
After a tooth extraction, it is crucial to form a blood clot to stop bleeding and kickstart the healing process. Bite down on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes immediately after the procedure to help with this. If bleeding persists, replace the gauze pad and bite down firmly for another 30 minutes, repeating as needed.
Once the blood clot has formed, it is important not to disturb it for proper healing. Avoid rinsing your mouth vigorously, using straws, smoking, drinking alcohol, or brushing near the extraction site for the next 72 hours. Also, limit strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours to prevent increased blood pressure and further bleeding.
You may experience pain and swelling after the extraction. Applying an ice pack to the area can help reduce swelling. Follow your prescribed pain medication regimen, and contact our office if it is not effective. If antibiotics are prescribed, continue taking them for the full course.
Stay hydrated and eat soft, nutritious foods on the day of the extraction. Resume normal eating habits once comfortable. After 24 hours, return to your regular dental routine, including brushing and flossing at least once a day, to speed up healing and maintain oral hygiene.
You should start feeling better and be able to return to normal activities within a few days. Contact our office immediately if you experience heavy bleeding, severe pain, persistent swelling, or have a reaction to the medication.
Post-Op Instructions for Fillings
Following a dental filling, it is crucial to adhere to the instructions provided by Dr. Rob. These guidelines are essential for maximizing the effectiveness of your treatment. If you have any inquiries or wish to schedule an appointment with our dentist in Atwater, OH, please contact us at (330) 628-0066.
While still under the effects of anesthesia, it is important to exercise caution. Refrain from consuming alcohol or hot beverages until the numbness subsides, which may take several hours. During this period, you may not have normal sensation of pressure or temperature, increasing the risk of accidentally burning your mouth or biting the inside of your cheek.
For pain management, take Ibuprofen or another recommended pain reliever for five days. It is common to experience sensitivity after receiving a filling. If the sensitivity persists for more than a week, we may need to adjust your bite as the filling could be slightly too high, leading to ongoing discomfort.
If sensitivity persists beyond five days, please reach out to us for a re-evaluation. For any additional questions regarding post-operative care for dental fillings, feel free to contact Dennis Dental Care. Our team members are here to assist you.
