Rediscover Confidence and Comfort with Custom Dentures
- Conventional Full Dentures: This involves removing all the natural teeth and allowing the gum tissue to heal before the dentures are placed. The healing process can take a few months, during which time you will be without teeth.
- Immediate Full Dentures: Before your teeth are removed, your dentist takes measurements and prepares dentures specifically for your mouth. Once your teeth are extracted, the dentures are placed immediately, so you won't have to be without teeth. However, follow-up visits are necessary to adjust the dentures, as your jawbone will change shape during the healing process. Once your mouth has fully healed, the dentures may need to be tightened to ensure a proper fit.
It may take some time to adjust to your new dentures. The flesh-colored base of the dentures sits over your gums, which some people find bulky or restrictive, particularly for their tongue. You might also experience some looseness. These sensations can affect your ability to eat and speak initially. However, as you adapt, your mouth will get used to the dentures, making them feel more natural. While they may not ever feel perfectly comfortable, they are a significant improvement over having no teeth.
Even though dentures are not natural teeth, they require proper care. Brush them to remove plaque and food particles before taking them out. After removal, place them in room temperature water or a denture cleaning solution—never use hot water, as it can warp the dentures. Handle them gently to avoid dropping them, and never attempt to adjust them yourself. If you experience discomfort or looseness, consult your dentist for adjustments to avoid damaging the dentures.
