Post-Cosmetic Dental Reconstruction Care
If you are experiencing any discomfort or issues with your new bite after cosmetic dental reconstruction, please be aware that this is normal. It may take some time for your brain to adjust to the changes in alignment or thickness of your teeth. If you notice any high spots or ongoing problems with your bite, please contact our office at Brimfield Phone Number (330) 628-0066 to schedule an adjustment appointment.
It is common to feel sensitivity to hot and cold as your teeth heal after the removal of tooth structure. This sensitivity should improve over time. Your gums may also be sore for a few days. To help reduce pain and swelling, rinse with warm salt water (one teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water) three times a day. Taking a mild pain reliever, such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen (Motrin), every 3-4 hours can also help manage any discomfort.
Adjusting to Your New Dental Work
Please be aware that it is common to experience changes in speech or increased saliva in the days following your dental work. These adjustments will soon diminish, and you will feel back to normal. Remember to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing daily to ensure the longevity of your new teeth. Regular plaque removal and cleaning appointments are crucial for the ongoing success of your dental work.
To protect your new teeth, avoid hard foods that could potentially damage them, as well as your natural teeth. Stay away from items like beer nuts, peanut brittle, ice, fingernails, pencils, and sticky candies. Smoking can also cause staining on your new teeth, so it's best to limit or avoid foods and drinks that can cause stains, such as coffee, red wine, tea, and berries.
If you play sports, please inform us so we can provide you with a custom mouthguard. If you grind your teeth at night, make sure to use the night guard we have provided. Adjusting to the appearance and feel of your new smile may take some time. If you have any concerns or questions, feel free to reach out to us. We are here to assist you and address any issues you may have.
Care Instructions for Dental Crowns and Bridges
Dental crowns and bridges typically require two to three appointments for completion. During the initial visit, your teeth will be prepared and molds of your mouth will be taken. Temporary crowns or bridges will be placed to protect your teeth while the custom restoration is being made. Numbness in your tongue, lips, and the roof of your mouth may occur due to anesthesia, so it is recommended to avoid consuming hot beverages until the numbness wears off completely.
If a temporary crown becomes loose, please contact us at (330) 628-0066 and bring the temporary crown with you so we can re-cement it. Keeping the temporary crown in place is essential to prevent other teeth from shifting and ensure a proper fit for your final restoration.
To care for the temporary crown, avoid sticky foods and hard substances, and chew on the opposite side of your mouth. Continue to brush your teeth as usual, but floss carefully to avoid dislodging the temporary crown. Any temperature or pressure sensitivity should diminish within a few weeks after the final restoration is placed. If you experience discomfort, mild pain medications prescribed by our office can help manage it.
If you notice an uneven bite, persistent pain, or have any questions or concerns, please contact our office at (330) 628-0066.
Post-Tooth Extraction Care Instructions
Following a tooth extraction, it is essential to form a blood clot to stop bleeding and begin the healing process. Bite down on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes right after the procedure to assist with this. If bleeding continues, replace the gauze pad and bite down firmly for another 30 minutes, repeating as necessary.
Once the blood clot has formed, it is crucial not to disturb it for proper healing. Avoid rinsing your mouth vigorously, using straws, smoking, drinking alcohol, or brushing near the extraction site for the next 72 hours. Additionally, limit strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours to prevent increased blood pressure and further bleeding.
You may experience pain and swelling after the extraction. Applying an ice pack to the area can help reduce swelling. Follow your prescribed pain medication regimen, and contact our office if it is not effective. If antibiotics are prescribed, continue taking them for the full course.
Stay hydrated and consume soft, nutritious foods on the day of the extraction. Resume normal eating habits once comfortable. After 24 hours, return to your regular dental routine, including brushing and flossing at least once a day, to accelerate healing and maintain oral hygiene.
You should start feeling better and be able to resume normal activities within a few days. Contact our office immediately if you experience heavy bleeding, severe pain, persistent swelling, or have a reaction to the medication.
Post-Op Instructions for Fillings
After getting a dental filling, it is important to follow the instructions provided by your dentist. These guidelines are crucial for ensuring the effectiveness of your treatment. If you have any questions or need to schedule an appointment with our dentist in Brimfield, OH, please call us at (330) 628-0066.
While still under anesthesia, be cautious and avoid consuming alcohol or hot beverages until the numbness wears off, which may take a few hours. During this time, you may not have normal sensation of pressure or temperature, increasing the risk of burning your mouth or biting your cheek accidentally.
To manage pain, take Ibuprofen or another recommended pain reliever for five days. It is normal to experience sensitivity after getting a filling. If the sensitivity continues for more than a week, we may need to adjust your bite as the filling could be slightly too high, causing ongoing discomfort.
If sensitivity persists beyond five days, please contact us for a re-evaluation. For any further questions about post-operative care for dental fillings, don't hesitate to reach out to our team at Dennis Dental Care. We are here to help.
